INTERVIEW: The Spider Accomplice

How would you classify your music?

It’s modern rock, but more specifically, an amalgam of rock, blues, punk and metal.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

Our influences are incredibly diverse, as you’d imagine they would be based on our music! Thirty Seconds to Mars, Beth Hart, Nightwish, My Chemical Romance, and Pink Floyd are some of the main ones.

What do you want fans to take from your music?

Mystery and hope…. Our records always set up a riddle- with the answer included. And that answer is usually an encouragement to keep on.

How’s the music scene in your locale?

Evolving. Some of the legendary LA clubs have been shuttered: Key Club, Knitting Factory, House of Blues, etc. It’s a bit disheartening. Our singer, VK, always says “You come to LA to find your band, you leave LA to find your fans.” We like to get out and tour whenever possible.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

We’ll let VK take this one:

“Queensryche, the Promised Land Tour. It was an enormous spectacle, and Geoff never sounded better!”.

What we like most about playing live is the connection- getting to share the emotions behind these songs and see the immediate, visceral effects they bring about.

Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

All the songs are special in their own way- but Bromelaid is an anthem that we are particularly proud of; it conveys the spirit of our mission pretty perfectly.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

We are 3 incredibly different personaIities. We have learned, and continue to learn, that rather than being a liability, that is a strength- we create something entirely new each time we step into the room together, because we’re each bringing such disparate ingredients to the kitchen. It’s one of the reasons our sound is so unique. So with each record, we get better at navigating and harnessing the power of our differences.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

We would love to work with The Roots. Something amazing would come out of that collaboration. 😉

What’s next for you?

We are in the throes of writing the material for the final chapter in the Los Angeles Trilogy. The new songs are sounding big and diverse and everything you’d expect us to write!
