19-year-old Kara Marni has been busy in the studio working with the likes of The Invisible Men (Zayn, Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, Iggy Azalea), Sebastian Kole (Alessia Cara, Jennifer Lopez), Shea Taylor (Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, Rihanna) to name a few, crafting a sound that will undoubtedly garner many new fans in 2017. She has been capturing the hearts of many since sharing her vocal abilities performing live throughout 2016 and online covering classics such as Minnie Ripperton’s – Loving You and more recently The Weekend both received favorably.
Kara’s vocal range is pure class and on this cover, she shares her interpretation of an R&B/soul influence from the 90s, creating a sound that keeps her inspired musically but adding something of her own.
The track, a sultry rendition of Lauryn Hill & D’Angelo’s ‘Nothing Even Matters’, is performed with the emerging star XamVolo – who Kara performed live with in 2016. Xam says of Kara “Kara has one of the finest voices I’ve ever heard; it was a pleasure working with her on a few things recently. Her attention to detail is admirable – definitely going to be hearing a lot from her in the near future”. When recording this cover, Kara says she recalls a magical quite from the iconic Etta James “My mother always told me, even if a song has been done a thousand times, you can still bring something of your own to it”. ‘I wanted to respect my many musical idols [when recording covers] whilst sharing a little of me too.’
Kara will continue to work on new music throughout 2017 and perform live around the UK and beyond, sharing her gift with audiences young and old, proving she is truly one to watch.
