How would you classify your music?
‘Eclectic’, with strong affinities to jazz, blues, rock, and R & B…meaning the Motown variety.
Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?
Besides Bach, Beethoven and Brahms? The Beatles, Hendrix, Steely Dan, Little Feat and Stevie Wonder.
What do you want fans to take from your music?
Introspection, a quest for the truth; honesty. Joy.
How’s the music scene in your locale?
Impoverished for the most part unless one doesn’t mind traveling two to six hours. But among the musicians in the immediate environs I know most of the cream of the crop, having spent so much time with them.
What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?
Hendrix @ the Baltimore Civic Center. Probably late spring in ’69.
Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?
“Say It”. It’s restless; aggressively amorous. Harmonically, it only comes home to the tonic chord twice in the entire song!
How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?
For several years I was obliged to take a complete hiatus from performing. It gave me a new (or old?) set of ears, and reoriented me away from the requirements of band work. At last I’m making time for my own goals! (Originals.)
If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?
Bach. Who else?
What’s next for you?
I’ve got a ‘suitcase full of’ rough renditions of my compositions that need to be polished up.
