Premier: Joe Nance “Closed Caption Vol. 1: Motivation”

Finally wrapping up another premiere week, we are heading over to Northern California where we find hip-hop artist and rapper JOE NANCE who’s ringing in the new year with a brand new endeavor that’s already gaining some strong momentum forward as one of 2017’s artists to watch. For those not in the know, Joe is a founding member of AVID ROOTS ENTERTAINMENT an endeavor that was conceived to bring together top quality artists, which would help to bring a higher level of musicianship to the masses.  Joe has teamed up with some of the best Bay Area producers to bring you his newest project CLOSED CAPTION Vol.1 MOTIVATION which features the exclusive single “TOAST”.

“Toast is a song in celebration to the everyday men and women who handle their responsibilities, take care of their families, and push forward to becomging the best they can be” – Joe Nance

Notably the AVID ROOTS team was named one of the finalists in LINKIN PARK’s music competition and is up for the chance to win some major prizes through their Stagelight/ content platform.

Joe also had a chance to sit down and talk to us about the single and more!

Hi Joe, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Good, blessed. Just been working a lot. Creating new music.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Toast”?

“Toast” was produced by Avid Roots, which includes Justin, Kendrick, and myself, and mixed and mastered by De’la at TrakNation.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Well, “Toast” was written last year during a time when I was tested and really had to prove myself. I was in a position where I couldn’t afford to fail, I just had to win. And I was determined. I put in the long hours, late nights and early mornings. And I succeeded. “Toast” is very personal, yet inclusive to anyone who can relate to overcoming obstacles.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

We have a few ideas in mind. All of which revolve around the concept of “Closed Caption”. But as of late, we’ve been talking more about the possibilities of a video for “Zoning”.

The single comes off your new EP Closed Caption Vol. 1: Motivation – what’s the story behind the title?

We were inspired to call the series “Closed Caption” because we wanted people to take a closer look. Like in some foreign films, if you don’t pay attention the subtitles you could miss out on something vital to the story. And in many ways our music is similar, if you’re looking to self improve you don’t want to miss a beat.

How was the recording and writing process?

I wrote and recorded the whole song at my home studio. It was over the course of a few weeks as I was experiencing the inspiration for the song.

What aspect of motivation did you get to explore on this particular EP?

Self-motivation is probably the strongest theme. I feel like each song from the EP helps to paint that picture. Our goal is to inspire, uplift and of course to motivate.

Any plans to hit the road?

At this time our focus is on our craft. We have a genuine passion for music and the creative process is our favorite. However, the time for the road will come.

What else is happening next in Joe Nance’s world?

Up next we have plans for Closed Caption Vol. 2: Inspiration, and Closed Caption Vol. 3: Ambition. I’m really excited to share the rest of the series. It’s pretty cool how all the songs correlate with each other and to the overall theme of each volume. I hope that each listener will feel encouraged listening to our music. Motivation Is only the beginning. Stay tuned.
