INTERVIEW: Claire Vandiver

Hi Claire, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi there! I’m great. Thank you for the interview!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Craze“?

Well this song was actually the 1st single I released off the Ep “Hot blood”. One of my friends used the word “Craze” in a conversation And I thought to myself wow that would be an awesome song title. I went home sat on my bathroom counter and the hook to Craze came out! It was one of those songs that came naturally to me. I wrote craze a few years ago but somehow it really fits with all today’s craziness even more so now.

How was the film experience?

Shooting the music video was an awesome experience. We actually winged it and filmed it in downtown St. Augustine Fl. Everyone gave us odd looks as this man followed me around with a camera haha.

The single comes off your new album Hot Blood – what’s the story behind the title?

Wow I must be highly influenced by my friends!! Haha Well again I find inspiration in others a lot of times. I was with my father and a friend at a music festival. My friend mentioned the word “Hot blood” She told my dad and I we should write a song called Hot blood And we did!! It actually ended up making sense to name the Ep that. “Hot blood” is my alter ego in a sense.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was awesome! I actually co-wrote every song on the Ep with my father. We also produced the Ep as well. He played all guitar parts on the tracks. He’s killer! Maybe im being bias haha. As far as recording I actually recorded the Ep with a fella named Lamar Hickley. I went to college with Lamar for music production. We started the project in his home studio then proceeded to a bigger space to finish it. I love recording and getting involved in every aspect. It’s like making a baby!!!

What role does Nashville plays in your music?

I was actually born in Nashville. I grew up around music my whole life and knew from the get go it was something I wanted to somehow always be involved in.

How has your upbringing have influence you as an artist?

My dad is an artist as well. Great player/songwriter. Naturally growing up I was always inspired by him. They say you are who you surround yourself with.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Writing a song is a mystery. There’s sometimes events that take place in your life or others you’re close to. It comes from a place no one really knows.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes!!! In the process now of wrapping up and confirming a few dates before I post them. Nashville and New York are for sure on the list! West cost is also on the horizons.

What else is happening next in Claire Vandiver‘s world?

A music video for the song “hot blood” is in the works. Also I’ve been writing and wrapping up the next batch of songs before I hit the studio again. I’m really excited to record soon. I feel I’m already evolving and growing as an artist that the next Ep is going to be totally 360 from the last.
