Los Angeles-based Blake Hazard is happy to share a new single, “Before The Ice,” which premiered via Flood Magazine today who who noted that the single “tantalizes” and praised its “late-night smokiness.” Also revealed today is a Xander Singh (Passion Pit, Pepper Rabbit) remix of the track. “Before The Ice” is the first in a series of singles and remixes from Hazard that will be released in 2017.
The studio version was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Thom Monahan (Vetiver, Wild Nothing, Fruit Bats). Of writing the “Before The Ice” Blake told Flood “I imagined a scene on a quiet starry beach at night, the ice clinking around in moonlit glasses, making two people brave enough to feel something – or admit that they do – for each other. It’s a little encouragement to get together, too, to risk your heart a little, let the stars align.”
Blake’s musical career began while she was in her teens by playing in New York City subways. She eventually graduated to playing smaller clubs and then made her way to Boston to study at Harvard University. There she continued to play live, and eventually met John Dragonetti (Jack Drag). They duo moved to Los Angeles, and broke up in 2005. After hearing the songs that each had written about their parting, they reunited to form The Submarines. The Subs went on to make three records and remix EPs for the Canadian label Nettwerk Records. The band toured the US and Europe many times, making festival and television appearances, with their songs licensed extensively for film and TV worldwide.
