Singer-songwriter Jesse Ruben is set to perform his empowering anthem “We Can” on NBC’s The Today Show on Friday February 10th. The booking came about organically, as The Today Show’s host Hoda Kotb discovered the song while taking a spin class on Tuesday, January 31st. Kotb was so inspired by the song, that the next day it was featured on The Today Show radio hour on SiriusXM. On Thursday February 2nd, Kotb featured “We Can” on The Today Show itself, and saying “it was refreshing to see something so inspiring” during the feature.
Jesse Ruben wrote “We Can” after running his first marathon, in an effort to inspire others to try new things and take on bigger goals. Ruben also established The We Can Project, a service-based initiative that inspires students, teachers, and administrative staff to make positive changes in the world. The initiative encourages each participant comes up with a list of goals for themselves (“I Can”), other people in their community (“You Can”), and the world (“We Can”). Along the way, students gain confidence, leadership, independence, and problem-solving experience. Over 250,000 students have participated in the US and Canada with projects such as building a home for a family in need and organizing a charity walk to raise money for cancer research. The We Can Project can last from a week to an entire school year and can engage a single classroom or an entire school.
Ruben has recently been touring in conjunction with the success of his devotional love song “This Is Why I Need You”, written in response to Ruben’s own battle and recovery from a bout with Lyme Disease. The song has been streamed over 3 million times online, and Ruben’s recent tour activity includes dates with Jewel, KT Tunstall, Martin Sexton, Donavon Frankenreiter, Don McLean, and Ron Pope, as well as a performance at the Off The Record Music Festival in Atlantic City.
