INTERVIEW: KOBA

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! Very well thanks, busy with rehearsals for live shows and planning the next couple of months. We love playing live!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Rush”?

We’ve been writing over the last year or so and Rush is one of the newer tracks, we only finished it in September and we’re really pleased with how it turned out. It’s about forging relationships with people from different social circles. This can be a tough thing to do when you’ve finished education and maybe being out of work.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Songs can be interpreted in different ways, I think Rush is one of these songs, but it’s basically about someone I met who wanted way more from me than I was prepared to give.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes! We’ve been working hard getting the video right and we hope it’s out in the next 2-3 weeks. We’ve never released a music video before so we’re super excited about it!

How was the recording and writing process?

We’re pretty chilled folk and write everything at our home studio. We’ve tried lots of different techniques with writing and I think Rush came from a vocal melody and we worked the music arrangement around that.

What made you want to seek for a darker direction on this song?

We’ve always listed to darker music, music that connects emotionally and takes you on a bit of a journey while day dreaming. I guess this is just something that comes naturally now.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, we’re hoping to have a few more releases this year. This is always depending a million factors and you never know what’s round the corner, but at the moment yes we’re very much looking forward to releasing more music! We’re always writing to keep things fresh, but I think we’ve got the next release ready to go.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Nothing concrete so it’s wrong to name dates and titles yet (we’re the kings of ‘working titles’ ha), but we hope to have something new out before Summer 2017, again this depends on a lot of things.

Any plans to hit the road?

We’d love to! We don’t have a booking agent yet, so it’s a case of getting shows as, when and if and when the opportunity of a tour arises we’ll definitely been keen for it.

What else is happening next in KOBA’s world?

Next up is a show in Edinburgh at Sneaky Pete’s on Friday 3rd Feb, then we’re continuing to push the ‘Rush’ release with video etc. We’ll start to look at the next release in a few weeks as there’s a lot of preparation to get fresh material together.
