Tucker: Stellar, you’ve been keeping up with the news, right?
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Time To Get Lost”?
Tucker: We’re definitely trying to do something a little different. It’s more aggressive than we’ve been in the past.
Patrick: We wanted it to mark a new direction, kinda… we’re going to try some more challenging stuff this year.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Tucker: Lyrically, it was fueled by the election… there’s definitely an anti-authoritarian message to the song.
Patrick: It’s been a bit of rough sledding here in the US lately.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Tucker: Oh yeah. It doesn’t actually use any footage, so I got to make it entirely from my couch.
How was the recording and writing process?
Tucker: The way we usually work is Pat sends me a track, pretty close to finished. I write melody and lyrics, record my vocals, and send it back to him to mix.
Patrick: For this song, after I got Tucker’s part back, I decided to add the string part. So then I wrote the string arrangement, hired players and recorded it. We spent a bit longer than usual making final tweaks as well. A couple extra steps but worth it I hope!
What role does Kasabian play in your music?
Patrick: None yet, but I’m going to check them out right now.
Does the new single mean we can expect any new material – how’s that coming along?
Tucker: We’re going to put out new material like clockwork this year. Under budget and ahead of schedule.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Patrick: Our next single is called Money. Not sure of the release date just yet but again, new material like clockwork this year.
Will you be diving into politics throughout the new record or will you be exploring other themes?
Tucker: There are a lot of different stories we want to tell… some political, some not. Our previous single was about artificial intelligence.
Any plans to hit the road?
Tucker: We play pretty regularly around Los Angeles, and we just did a little mini-tour with Great Good Fine OK and Flor. We want to be the first band to tour in a Tesla, we’re just waiting on Elon Musk to send us a Model X.
What else is happening next in Bad Wave’s world?
Tucker: We wanna be a disruptor band.
Patrick: Lots of new music, more shows, cool hats, weird videos.
