INTERVIEW: Sages

Answered by Dino Vidovich

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Great!  Thanks for having us.

Can you talk to us more about your single “With You”?

Sure, let’s do it.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I’d say that the overall state of the world was pretty inspirational.  Getting older and seeing things from new perspectives and understanding was also inspirational.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

We’ve been talking about doing a couple videos, but haven’t decided yet which songs we’re going to do them for.  This definitely could be one of them.

The single comes off your new album Sleepwalker – what’s the story behind the title?

Well, a lot of us are sleepwalking; unaware of what we’re each capable of.  There are so many different dynamics at play in the manifestation of the external reality we experience, that i think if our current system encouraged people to research those dynamics as much as it encourages people to be consumers and obedient workers, we would live in a completely different world. Sleepwalker is a reflection of all of that.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was crazy.  Emotional, frustrating, exciting, and everything in between. Glad to be done and working on the next record, haha.

What role did Saosin and Deftones play on this album?

Haha, oh man.. a big role!  I think it’s safe to say Deftones are probably the biggest influence we have collectively as a band.  We love those dudes.  And I don’t know about the other guys, but I had that self-titled Saosin album on repeat in my car until the next album came out.  I love Saosin, man.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Through experiences in life, I guess.  I’m all about seeking out the answers to some of life’s biggest questions and delving deep into the mysteries of the universe and spirituality, and by corresponding with all of that stuff, some pretty interesting perspectives have made their way into my life and I definitely reflect on them in the songs.

Any plans to hit the road?

Absolutely.  Summer time is lookin’ good.  We’ll see what happens.

What else is happening next in Sages’ world?

Actually, just a few hours ago we were talking about getting back in the studio to track the next single from the next record.  We’ll see what happens with that.  Sounds like it’s going to happen pretty soon!  As of now though we’re just grindin’ out..  looking forward to sharing the stage with Norma Jean and He is Legend next month.
