INTERVIEW: Laura Jean Anderson

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Won’t Give Up On You”?

Yea the new live video is a song I wrote about a year ago while deep in nostalgia for the good days while going through some shit & eventually arming up and finding strength.  It’s always had a personal meaning to me but as the current state of politics are going, it hit me that this tune is more relevant than ever and I just had to release it.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

-Yes. I had an intense health scare at the time and saw people around me giving up on me and pulling away and had to make the decision to either pity myself or fight back. So I chose not to give up on them as people.

Any plans to release a music video for the single?

Not yet. The live video will be it for now.

How was the recording and writing process?

Really lovely. The writing seemed to flow out & the recording happened so fast it didn’t seem real haha.

How your upbringing influence has influence you as an artist?

I could go on and on about this one but I’ll spare the novel 😉 I had a very contrasting experience growing up in a conservative religion family in a very progressive liberal town (olympia,wa). It sort of defines everything I am as an artist.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Most definitely! Working on an album now. Super excited!!

Any tentative release date or title in mind? Would all the songs have a political connotation or are you exploring other themes?

Expect some singles to come out by the spring and record by end of the year:) im a huge believer in the personal is political & my goal with the songs is to explore the extremes of the human emotion and my personal emotions which you could say is political or not depending on the angle.

Any plans to hit the road?

-I hope so!

What else is happening next in Laura Jean Anderson’s world?

Writing, recording, playing, resisting the man!
