INTERVIEW: Chicago’s Diverse Marley

VENTS Mag: Hi Diverse Marley, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Diverse Marley: I’ve been good. Still in recovery but things are coming along. I’m blessed G.

VENTS Mag: Can you talk to us more about your latest single “It Ain’t Adding Up”?

Diverse Marley: No doubt. It’s a track that I was working on before my accident. I was just getting out my thoughts on the things that were going on around me and with my career.

VENTS Mag: Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Diverse Marley: A Lot of people were approaching me with opportunities, features and shows but would have terms that just didn’t add up to me. I was making moves that were better than some artists who claim to have a bigger buzz than me. I was getting paid for shows and they were doing shows for free. Things weren’t adding up. Not to mention people who claimed to support me weren’t really there when I needed them. Words weren’t matching action, so I had to cut them off. Not really trying to build with that type of energy around me.

VENTS Mag: Any plans to release a video for the single?

Diverse Marley: It’s a thought but I’m trying to focus on releasing tracks right now. Building the momentum, focusing on my SoundCloud presence. Videos are relevant in building a brand but with everyone being so strong on streaming music, I feel that just getting the music out there is more important than visuals.

VENTS Mag: How was the recording and writing process?

Diverse Marley: Both were easy. The lyrics to the verses flowed out as soon as I came up with the hook. The recording process was comfortable; I was able to build on it. Take from it and add to it. It was fun.

VENTS Mag:Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Diverse Marley: Most definitely! I’m actually getting ready for my second release of the year. The album is done. I actually have 3 albums done, so more material will be coming.

VENTS Mag: Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Diverse Marley: I don’t have any specific dates in mind but for my next single we’re looking at sometime in February. The title of the second release is “Owe Down” and the title of the first album is “Farewell Welfare”.

VENTS Mag: Would you be exploring other accident and tragedies throughout the new record?

Diverse Marley: Kind of. I’ll be speaking on some legal troubles, problems dealt in the streets and in society overall.

VENTS Mag: Any plans to hit the road?

Diverse Marley: I have a show February 11th in Dayton, Ohio and I’m reaching out to other venues to put together a promotional tour for the album. Nothing is set in stone yet though.

VENTS Mag: What else is happening next in Diverse Marley’s world?

Diverse Marley: Consistency. I’m really excited about what’s to come. More music. More shows. More interviews. Just a lot of focus on introducing the world to Diverse Marley and building a strong fan base.
