INTERVIEW: Alonestar

Hi Jethro, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’m great thanks! Its a pleasure to be here.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Lovelorn”?

Lovelorn is a song I wrote with Rosie Ribbons and produced by myself and Angelo Bruschini from Massive attack.

I wrote it bout past life experiences. I think its a great song and it reflects my new sound and style. It’s something fresh and different to anything else out there at the moment. I dug deep to exercise the darkness in this track, and fell into the depths of my soul when coming up with the concept. Its had fantastic reviews and great reaction from Radio so I’m very pleased! its out on march 12th 2017!

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I was dating a girl and we used to just hang out on weekends and get drunk and fool around, it wasn’t serious at first but she started having  stronger feelings and the whole relationship turned a bit deep and dark. Its all explained in the lyrics to the song.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes were filming on Feb 10th. Sarah Harding from Girls aloud is playing a great feature in it. It’s gonna be a great video! Good concept! Should be out early march.

How was the recording and writing process?

It started in the studio with myself programming ideas and i had a skeleton track , very empty but enough for me to vibes to and I wrote the verses. Rosie came to the studio and started humming melodies to the track, then she wrote the chorus and we worked on it together.

What was it like to work with Rosie Ribbons and Massive Attack’s Angelo Bruschini and Damon Reece? How did those relationships develop?

Amazing! so much fun with Rosie, I knew she would smash it, very voice is incredible and its always a pleasure to work with Angelo, a fantastic guitarist with some really great ideas, we bounce off each other in the studio. I then iced the song at matrix studios with Pete Boxsta & Craig Dodds. they did an awesome job with the mix and really messed with the drums and made it really pumping and that side chain swell vibe.

How much did they influence the song?

We all put our own touches on the song, it was a complete collaboration from start to finish.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! I’m writing my next EP for the summer and have some exciting features also!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

It’s going to be an EP its untitled at the moment but I’m very excited to be working on it.

Would all the album deal with heartbreak relationships and love or are you exploring other themes?

There is one song called “Show me your love” ft. Laura White , she’s  an amazing singer and such a lovely person. I’m definitely exploring other themes, global issues, Unity, peace  using different musicians and artists to collaborate.

Any plans to hit the road?

I’m getting booked up until after the summer now 🙂

What else is happening next in Alonestar’s world?

I’m off to jamaica and Trinidad this summer to shoot 2 videos with Tim Starr, Skripturez and Kontractor 3 fantastic music artists from the West Indies. Also id like to go to America late summer for some meetings and gigs.

Im also doing a song with Vino Alan From USA he was from a show out there and has such great tone to his voice and i love his music. were in talks about the new song so hopefully i can Put it on my new EP!
