Lead single, “Stay” boasts her musicianship, featuring diverse instrumentation and an appreciation for the roots. Afropunk premiered the track, praising Sloan’s unique take on the retro sound. Afropunk states, “Motown’s distinctive brand of soul is one of a kind and K Sloan, the NYC-based retro soul singer is tapping into that wavelength effortlessly on her new single ‘Stay.’ The simple bassline provides the perfect backdrop for shimmering strings and a melody reminiscent of “Stay” by Ben E. King, an interpolation on the classic with a very different message.” Check out the full piece HERE. “Stay” is the first single off K Sloan’s upcoming EP, Blank Pages. In addition to the traditional soul rhythm section (clav, Moog, organ), Sloan and her producer also experimented with sitar, horns, a full quartet and tambourine. The vintage feel of Mighty Toad Studio set the tone for the recording sessions, allowing Sloan and her producer, Swang, to tap into their appreciation for old time soul. With select dates planned in NYC, keep an eye out for Sloan as she gears up for the release of her EP, due out in Spring 2017.
