INTERVIEW: Buddha x Bardoe

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Maintaining sanity in these turbulent and unpredictable times.  Apart from that we are staying afloat making moves, as well as working on a follow up project and a few other things.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “The Honorable”?

The Honorable is a very personal song.  Bardoe produced the beat, cooking up a mean Star Trek sample along with a vintage boom bap instrumental. I wanted to encapsulate the golden era sound while maintaining a vintage Buddha Lotus flow.  The title and hook for the track are inspired from the name bestowed upon the Buddha by others.  This song  was made for hm and honors him!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

My love for Buddhism, my curiosity of the world, the many lives I’ve lived, and the search for truth inspired me to write this song.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I plan on releasing a video for two singles, this is definitely up there in the running along with our next single “Wavelengths”!!!

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process spawns from our love of beats and rhymes along with our daily routine.  We are constantly digging back in the past and finding inspiration in many areas such as news, current events, history, esoteric knowledge, anime, comics, movies, books, and tv shows.  This song evolved from our daily routine of working full time jobs while living HIP HOP to its creative fullest.  Veterans and students of the sound, we rhyme daily, produce daily, listen daily to new and old, as well as push ourselves to push the creative fold lyrically and content wise while preserving the essential essence of HIP HOP.

How did you guys come up together?

We are brothers who grew up internationally, we have travelled to over 39 countries before rap deal lol.

How has your time spent and being raised in different countries around the world influenced you as an artist?

It’s influenced me tremendously.  It’s opened my perspective and understanding to different ways of life and cultures.  It’s humbled me to understand that this world is a small place, and we all have something to leave behind and share.  Hip hop culture has travelled with me everywhere I’ve gone, and to see it’s impact from villages in Laos to mega cities like Tokyo is a beautiful evolution that had run parallel to my traveling past.   It’s the universal sound of the world.  It has no identity, for it is in all of us, and we speak it with our hands, movements, words, and sounds.

What role does photography play in your music and the other way around?
Photography plays a heavy role in our music.  It serves as inspiration and art that directly correlates with our vibes and sounds. Our photography tap into visual symbols and queues that detail our journey and story.  Bardoe shoots a lot of our photos and designs our covers, we usually sit down and brainstorm concepts as well as letting moments come to us.

Any plans to work on a new song together?

We definitely have plans on working on a follow up project.  Stay tuned and follow us on social media for news and other material.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I’m thinking about early summer, and a working title is, Diamond Dust, inspired from a famous sutra of the Buddha, called The Diamond Cutter.  Look it up it’s illuminating.

Any plans to hit the road?

Definitely have plans on taking Roaches on the road.  Have a few shows in DC lined up where we are based.  As well as looking at a few possible dates in NYC, Boston, Baltimore, and LA.

What else is happening next in your world?

I’m mainly going to focus on getting the Roaches EP out to as many ears as possible, as well as push forward with my Diamond Dust project.  We have a couple music videos and promo videos to release before and after the album drops.  Apart from having shows on deck, we are looking to expand our brand, lifestyle, ideas, products, and creative spice to the industry.  Hip Hop is a way of life, and we live by that code.
