INTERVIEW: Cyborg Asylum

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Doing well!  Thanks – and thanks for the opportunity to chat with Vents Magazine.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Synergy”?

Synergy is one of the first tracks we collaborated on, and, in some respects the Cyborg Asylum sound was born from it.  The song is meant to convey connectivity – that we are all a basic part of something greater.  An ominous tone with a touch of optimism.

Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?

No one event, but in a world where we are increasingly looking at everything with a microscope, the sentiment is a reminder not to forget to take the telescopic view as well.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

We’d like to do a video.  Not sure if it will be for Synergy just yet.

How was the recording and writing process?

We would describe it as solitary and collective.  The music/lyrics/melody lines and guitar parts were all initially created by one person working on each piece alone.  Then, later the pieces were put together. It was actually quite a lot of fun.  The convergence of our influences sometimes caused momentary disagreement, but the ensuing negotiations and resolution made for a much more thoughtful product.

What role does NYC play in your music?

While the collaboration spans continents, from our perspective the energy and edginess of NYC contributes to the overall vibe.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes – the album will be released on April 17and concurrent with that we are working on some new material.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The first single, “Synergy”,  is already available on iTunes and other music sites.  The album will be released on April 17th and will be called, “Never Finished, Only Abandoned”.

Any plans to hit the road?

2017 will be an interesting year – we will see where it takes us!

What else is happening next in Cyborg Asylum’s world?

More collaboration, more music, more inspiration, more travel and hopefully more sleep!
