Marla Mase Releases New Music Video For “A Gun”

Brooklyn singer/songwriter & playwright Marla Mase is back with yet another exciting release, this time the release of her somewhat experimental video for the single “A Gun”. This is one of her multi-part video companion piece to her recent LP, Miracles Lost & Found, out now via New York label True Groove Records. With its minimalist visual style and sharp social commentary, the video tackles the interplay between contemporary youth culture and gun violence by calling attention to gang violence, revenge killings, and school shootings.

Currently being developed as a multi-dimensional concert presentation, Miracles Lost & Found is a politically charged LP that blends power pop, spoken-word poetry, modern opera and post-punk attitude into a unique deconstruction of living and dying in the modern world.

Marla Mase is a writer/performer/producer/singer/songwriter. She pens songs, plays, monologues, short stories, erotica, blogs and poems. Known for her gutsy, sexy, raw performance style and smart, cutting lyrics, Marla is regarded by her peers and fans as a true musical pioneer. Her songs, a mix of punk, funk, spoken word and classic rock & roll are infused with “global soul,” the signature sound of  her Brooklyn-based label True Groove Records (also home of No Wave legends James Chance and the Contortions).

Along with triumphant tours in China, Europe and the United States, Marla received a ‘Messenger of Peace’ award from the Friends of the UN for her visionary work as a songwriter and performer.  Her critically acclaimed multi-media performance concert SPEAK premiered at NYC Summerstage 2013, and set the bar for her next release Half-Life which was heralded as ‘The first great album of 2014″ by Rock NYC. The record featured legendary Ikonoklast producer/bassist Bill Laswell on “The Heart Beats.” It was Mase and Laswell’s second collaboration—Laswell also provided a dubmix of “AnnaRexia” from Mase’s SPEAK DELUXE collection.

A long time creative force in groundbreaking NYC theatre as an actress, writer and producer, Mase currently has three projects in development: Diana & Navy (a future American musical written by True Groove labelmates Phoebe Nir and Tomás Doncker), The Pill (a post-truth memory play about family and mental illness), and a theatrical concert adaptation of her latest release Miracles~Lost & Found, directed by Lisa Milinazzo.

Along with her partner/collaborator Tomás Doncker, Mase is co-founder of True Groove Records, one of NYC’s fastest rising record labels.

She has her MA in Writing and Performance from NYU, is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society and is the owner of PARTYpoopers.com and partySWANK.com, where she has produced over 3,000 events over the past 25 years.

Most importantly, she is mother to two beautiful souls. She is grateful for her life.
