The PrimaDonna Reeds are a powerful alternative rock ‘n’ roll band of classically trained musicians with roots solidly planted in NYC’s Lower East Side. They put a modern spin on classic power pop/rock with their debut album, Red Stilettos. The band was formed by JC Ryder, an accomplished flamenco/rock guitarist, and Karena Reiter, rock vocalist and veteran music promoter. The album is currently available on iTunes, CD Baby and other digital music sites. Watch here
The unlikely pair and their talented musician friends merged together to create an album that Tuned Loud describes as “exploding with incredible musicality!” The title track is included on the soundtrack of the new Andy Garcia documentary on Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen, Sad Vacation, that was released in July 2016. The band will release their new video for the title track in early January 2017.
JC grew up in the East Village of New York City with no interest in the music scene he was surrounded by, while Karena was drawn to the stage. Soon, Karena’s passion for music grew contagious, and the couple performed regularly with various other musician friends in NYC. JC began to discover his calling for rock-n-roll and playing his electric guitar, bringing in Flamenco, funk and blues elements to the band. A close friend of Karena, actor Luigi Scorcia, who was Johnny Thunder’s bassist, discovered the band performing on the NYC music circuit, and he encouraged them to record their first album, Red Stilettos, co-written by JC and Karena. The PrimaDonna Reeds have since been performing regularly at all the classic Lower East Side venues, including Sidewalk Cafe, Lovecraft Bar, Arlene’s Grocery and DROM.
