Thank you and thanks for asking! Everything´s fine over here. Just played an acoustic gig last night. Mainly new songs on the set. Was very enjoyable indeed.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “One Mile Town”?
”One Mile Town” is one of fifteen new Daggerplay songs we recorded last summer. It´s been in our setlist for some time. We actually had many options for the first single and the song called ”Sinister Blues” was on the top of list but then we thought it would be nice to start with some decent punk rock´roll song so ”One Mile town” was the one.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Basically it´s a true story about about being a frustrated kid or an adult outsider living in small narrow-minded place where people think you’re just a weirdo who should be kept down.
How was the filming experience for the video?
Cold but fun. The video is shot in an old garage which has no heating at all. The temperature during the filming was about 5 minus degrees (celsius). We spent there a whole day just drinking beer and playing the song over and over again. Just us four and couple cameras, so the video it’s truly pure DIY.
How was the recording and writing process?
That song and the whole lot were recorded at East Sound Studios here in Helsinki with Sammy Aaltonen. We have worked together before when we recorded our debut ”Urban Campfire Songs” and the single ”Forest Hills” so once again these recording sessions were very smooth and easy. Everyone knows each other and each others habits. Sammy´s the co-producer and he always has cool ideas for the arrangements.
Can you tell us about some of your biggest influences?
Our music is a mix of differnt genres so it would be difficult to name just a few bands. Daggerplay is a combination of old school punk rock, original rock´n´roll, retro pop. And some country, folk and hard rock can be heard as well.
How’s your new album coming along?
Seven songs out fifteen are now completed and the rest eight songs will be mixed soon. The whole lot will be mastered by Pekka Laine who also works at East Sound Studios. We´re really satisfied with everything we´ve heard so far. We surely hope that we could find a record company to work with us and publish the album or albums.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
During this year. Before that we will put out more singles and DIY videos.
Any plans to hit the road?
We play gigs regulary but definitely would love to play more. Also it would be great to play outside of Finland.
What else is happening next in Daggerplay’s world?
More gigs, more rehearsals, more good music and spreading the word about Daggerplay.
