INTERVIEW: Corderoy

Hi Corderoy, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thanks for having me! Yeah I’m great, really excited for this year and can’t wait to kick it off.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Touch Your Face”?

Sure, I tried to let my feelings inspire my workflow with this song and let that determine the direction more than the actual production process. To be honest I often find myself just following what feels good when I’m writing rather than following a set path or working from a rigid template. Writing a song can be a state of mind thing a lot of the time for me and for this track I wanted to translate what was in my head at the time and the basic ideas started from there.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I can’t say any particular event played a part in the creation process but I think a combination of experiences and emotions all came in to play.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

No concrete plans at the moment, I have been approached by a few amateur video makers that love the track so much and want to do something so watch this space. I’m open minded to all options if anyone wants to do one!

How was the recording and writing process?

On a usual day I have literally hundreds of ideas spinning around my head so it’s normally the case of trying to pick one and nail it down. With this track it started with melody and hook in my head, having something like the phone handy is a godsend to quickly make a note of them or badly sing them into the Dictaphone! The track then goes through a number of stages of development, road testing and refining elements until things are sounding pretty much there.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are writing for your own than when you are writing for, say, National Geographic?

Although some of the production techniques remain the same, you do need to have a slightly more diverse producing stance due to the material your working on being so varied. Depending on the scene or project I’m working on you have to compose in a number of styles.  Due to this a lot of different production techniques are needed to get the right results. It can be a real challenge but I love pushing myself out of my comfort zone and I always love trying to incorporate this into my artist releases.

What draw you into House music and can we expect some Trance songs in the future?

To be perfectly honest House music was what got me into to Electronic music in the first place. I stumbled into Trance music when I was writing a lot of melodically driven euphoric songs but they originally were all house in style at the time, my style developed along with what I was feeling at the time. To be honest with all the amazing positive support I’ve had there has been a bit of negatively from certain fans in the trance area due to changing my direction a few years ago which is a shame. I still love Trance music and I’m proud of the tracks I wrote so never say never. For me as a musician I wanted experiment and push boundaries and I just naturally found myself writing more and more music that challenged that. The minute you give yourself a genre as an artist you are limiting yourself musically. I’d rather do what comes naturally, even if it upsets a few people!

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes it most certainly does, I can’t reveal too much yet but you’ll be first to hear what’s coming from me in 2017! I’ll be releasing more on my own label CDRY and also with labels like Enhanced Music that I really respect.

Any plans to hit the road?

Absolutely, I have a bit of a grueling studio diary coming up but straight after I’ll be looking forward to getting out there. I can’t wait to perform, do some meet and greets but to give something back to the fans to show my appreciation to those who have been supporting me over the last few years.

What else is happening next in Corderoy’s world?

A busy schedule in the studio as I’ve got a lot of exciting stuff in the pipeline so the main focus will be on a load of new releases. The brand new radio show will be rolled out along side some super hot releases that are lined up on CDRY. I would like to take this opportunity thank everyone for all the love and support you’ve given me in 2016 and I can’t wait to show you what I’ve got lined up for this year!
