INTERVIEW: Pop/R&B Artist Ilana Armida

Hi Ilana, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! Thanks for having me. I’ve been great!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “This Feeling”?

“This Feeling” is the intro track to the “Iridescent Flower Child” EP and “Iridescent Flower Child” is an introduction to who Ilana Armida is as an artist. “This Feeling” was originally written in my home studio along with my friend Lee Ackred and later reproduced with Josh Holiday.  Lee was messing around in Logic and created a really sexy two track loop and I just got on the mic and started singing what came to me. Josh and I came back to the song a few years later to create the final product.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I was recalling the feeling I felt when I stepped off stage from my first show. When I started my set there were maybe 30 people in the venue and when I finished there were about 100 people giving me a standing ovation. It was pure euphoria and as small as the show was I recall it as one of the best experiences I have ever had.

How was the film experience?

The video was shot by Ben Johnson Creative. I wanted the video to capture the feel of the entire EP, specifically the title. Ben and I worked together on the concept. It was a really fun shoot.

The single comes off your new album Iridescent Flower Child – what’s the story behind the title?

Iridescent means when something appears to change colors when looked at from different angles that alludes to my multiple dimensions and ideas. Flower represents growth. Child represents two things one is keeping things childlike and not so serious all the time but also remembering my big dream that I had as a little girl and staying true to who I am.

Flowers can control their own iridescence to attract bees this has to do with how I am in control of who I am as an artist. Flower child is another world d for a hippy someone who promotes peace and love and positivity

How was the recording and writing process?

A lot of IFC was recorded within a week. My producer Josh Holiday and I worked hard and pumped the songs out quickly. I had a lot to talk about.  I recorded all but 1 song in my home studio and they were mixed and mastered by ArTiChoKe.

How would this record showcase a matured side of you as an artist?

I put out a SoundCloud EP in college back in 2013 called “used up” and I think IFC really shows that I’ve matured not only as a vocalist and artist but as a person as well.  I have a better grip on who I am and I’m not afraid to talk about it and put myself out there.

What aspect of love did you get to explore on this material?

Each song on IFC takes you through a different emotion or situation regarding life love and my relationships. I kind of touch on everything from a one night stand to a sweet sweet breakup.

Any plans to hit the road?

I’m working with some amazing dancers and musicians right now finalizing a really dope show for IFC. I move to LA right after the release and hope to do a few shows there and possible a mini tour.

What else is happening next in Ilana Armida’s world?

Friday 1/6 I have my last show in Florida before my move and j release the music video for SWEET FREEDOM. Then IFC comes out on the 13th! I’ve been writing a lot and plan to have more releases soon!
