Dallas artists Sam Lao and Larry g(EE) sign to International music agency and record label DEFDISCO

Fresh off of the heels of the label’s latest announcement, DEFDISCO revealed the signing of two U.S. artists this morning in an exclusive interview with D Magazine. Earlier this month, DEFDDISCO‘s Head of Label Relations, Barry Gilbey, announced that ADA/Warner had signed the “mini-major” to its roster of independent labels. 2017 is set to be a big year for the international music agency and record label. With distribution and marketing power from ADA/Warner now under their belt, they plan to release two more records in the U.S. in the next year. Dynamic hip-hop vocalist Sam Lao and soul-pop artist Larry g(EE), two artists dominating the Dallas music scene, are sure to make waves on international airwaves.

“All of us at DEFDISCO are extremely excited to have Sam Lao on board and are looking forward to working with her,” said Gilbey.

“The responses we’ve received on Sam from agencies and brands in the U.K. have been astounding, with one ad-exec stating that ‘it is her mission to work with Sam Lao in 2017,'” said DEFDISCO’s Director of Brand Partnerships Paul Herron. “She certainly has a wide appeal on this side of the Atlantic.”

Dallas-based hip-hop vocalist Sam Lao has been causing a stir in the local music scene with the release of her latest record “SPCTRM” and summer anthem “Pineapple,” which was featured in Paper Magazine this past June. With the unique ability to spit rhymes with the boys one minute and the next hypnotize crowds with her sultry vocals, Lao racked up over 50K plays and videos this year with her newest release.

“I’m so excited and honored to be joining the DEFDISCO family,” said Lao. “They respect and value me as an artist, and I look forward to growing with them.”

Earlier this month, the hip-hop siren and Dallas Observer cover star took home all five Dallas Observer Music Awards she was nominated for, including “Best Rap/Hip-Hop Act,” “Best Album” and “Best Female Vocalist” with her single “Pineapple” taking home both “Best Music Video” and “Best Song.” Lao’s fresh lyrics and powerful onstage presence make her an impressive addition to DEFDISCO‘s solid U.S. roster. Her newest album will be officially released through the label and distributed by ADA/Warner, with marketing support from Warner Music and Black Box LA (Andra Day/Gary Clark Jr.).

Dallas-based soul-pop artist Larry g(EE), a second fresh face on DEFDISCO‘s U.S. roster, has become a staple in the local music scene. Garnering national attention on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he continues to blow audiences away with his onstage persona, from SXSW Music Festival and ACL Live in Austin to The Vans Warped Tour.

“Dallas has the fortunate privilege of claiming Larry g(EE) as a local artist, and now DEFDISCO shares in that honor by welcoming him to our roster of global talent,” said DEFDISCO’s Director of U.S. Business Development Eric McIntosh.

“In the ever-changing world of the music industry, I’m excited to be working with a label whose top priority is growing their artists brand from start to finish,” said g(EE).

Named as the Dallas Observer‘s “Best Funk/R&B Act” in 2013 and 2014 at its annual Dallas Observer Music Awards, g(EE) is a member of the Primary Wave Publishing family and currently working on the follow up to his hit debut EP “Weekends.” His forthcoming album will be released through the label and distributed by ADA/Warner, with marketing support from Warner Music and Black Box LA (Andra Day/Gary Clark Jr.).

Previously announced in an interview with Dallas Observer this past spring, Dallas-based electro-pop artist LEV also caught the attention of international record label and music agency DEFDISCO, ultimately signing with the British label in May 2016. As the fourth artist to sign with DEFDISCO for label representation, LEV‘s infectious lyrics alongside dreamy synths and booming beats serve as a formidable nod to ’70s disco and ’80s synth-pop. LEV is set to release her debut LP on the label in 2017 after making noise in the music scene with her debut EP “Fear No Evil” in May 2015 on Vintage Lion Records. She will release her first full-length album, “Glass Ceiling,” in 2017 with marketing support from Warner Music and The Syndicate (CHVRCHES/Spoon).
