INTERVIEW: Mickey 9s

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Not too shabby, thank you very much.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Superman”?

Superman is the first single off our next album Galactic Radio which will be released Spring 2017. Funky and fun.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Reading too much Nietzsche and Jung.

How was the film experience?

Great. We made a one-shot video for this one in a bedroom like old-school YouTube vids.

The single comes off your new album Galactic Radio – what’s the story behind the title?

It refers to searching for Extra-terrestial life by sending radio signals into space to see if anyone picks up the signal and replies.

How was the recording and writing process?

Fantastico. Wrote the tunes in a year and recorded the album in a fortnight with the mighty Rocket Science studio in Glasgow.

How much did the 80s and Daft Punk influence the record?

80s influence is largely from the Manchester Factory Records scene – stuff like New Order and general UK House culture. Daft Punk big time influenced us, as we decided to start the band after seeing Daft Punk’s pyramid live show back in the day.

What aspect of youth and hope did you get to explore on this material?

Youth – we have been friends since school. Hope – there is hope yet while the company remains true.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yup, going to put together a Feb-March tour of UK – not all confirmed yet but we should be hitting – London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, Ediburgh, Perth, Aberdeen, and Glasgow.

What else is happening next in Mickey 9s’ world?

Release this beast of an album – Galactic Radio – and get back into the studio to finish writing the next one!
