A special talent has emerged. The cult of Gizmo Varillas continues to grow with further tastemakers at BBC 6 Music coming across and championing someone they see as a major new emerging talent. As well as a Top 30 airplay chart for his debut album’s first single “Gotta Getaway” (not to mention 26,000 streams via Apple Music), Gizmo Varillas follows this notable introduction with a new track ‘Shadows of the Dark’. The third release from Gizmo builds upon his signature lilting, exotic guitar riffs however instead of the Tropicalia touches seen on previous tracks, Gizmo now introduces a more Flamenco, finger-picking style on this more pensive, morose offering. Offering us a glimpse into the variety of styles he’s displaying on his album ‘El Dorado’, this is a unique, intoxicating sound as timeless as it is genuinely exciting – not only because Gizmo has played every instrument, engineered, arranged and produced every record he’s released. The young artist has already picked up acclaim from tastemakers such as Daytrotter, CLASH Magazine, Indie Shuffle and Sofar Sounds and with this new release; Gizmo continues to mark his formidable growing reputation.
With a first London headline show at Ronnie Scott’s on Tuesday 15th November, Gizmo has also been confirmed as support for Jack Savoretti on his European tour. Warm, engrossing and full of character, “Shadows of the Dark” continues the story of a serious gem of a star in waiting.
