Hi Dorine, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’m doing great, thank you and thanks for having me.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Feelings”?
Yes. Feelings is the second single of my Upcoming Ep called Mima, it is a song I wrote when I was visiting my brother in Montreal, I took a mini studio with me there because I was in the middle of tons of inspiration and creating a lot of music, so not to stop that entirely I took it with me and that’s the one I wrote there in between getting ready for his wedding.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Of course, the past year was a lot of a learning process and introspective time in my life. So just learning about the perceptions I wasn’t willing to let go and were playing as a loop in my mind, and of course, the events and relationships in my life at that time inspired that song.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes, we shot the video last night in Tel Aviv at ‘ Shuk Hacarmel’ which is the main market of Tel Aviv. For me, it is hardcore at daytime because it is very populated and can barely move in it, but at night it was perfect because it has still the Hectic vibes with the silence as a dissonance.
It will come out in a few weeks.
The single comes off your new album Mima – what’s the story behind the title?
I had my first baby this year, and at the time I was thinking of titles she began to speak and calling me Mima, I thought it was the perfect name for it.
How was the recording and writing process?
I write and record intuitively, just letting the ideas flow, It’s a fast process because I work with multi layers and one layer leads to another, first beats and synths, the melody and lyrics were created a bit in a different way, I had a feeling that my partner can give it another twist so I asked him to gibberish a melody on the beat. I recorded him just a take and listened to the gibberish and that was the basis for the melody and lyrics cause some of the lyrics were already in that gibberish and I just puzzled the message out, and there it was.
What role did Almodovar play on this record?
Well, honestly as a new mum, I haven’t seen a movie properly for the year or more, but if I dream about it, maybe the ‘Crazy Conductor’?
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Inner self-listening and intuitive flow.
Any plans to hit the road?
We are planning! Spring – Summer 2017, I’m working on my live set these days, reproducing it as a more free and live vibe, we are six now on stage and it’s the best!
What else is happening next in Dorine Levy’s world?
Well, I’m in an open stage at the moment, I am working and collaborating with some amazing producers I met on the internet, new music and videos and of course the Ep coming out.
