INTERVIEW: Puerto Rican Thrashers Calamity

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey, thank you for having us. We feel great, lot of good stuff happening to Calamity lately.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “End Of The Road?”

Sure, “End of the Road” was released on November 17 and we are so proud of the way it represents the live sound of the band. We spent more than two week in the studio working on it, and we came out with one of the best song we have released so far.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Well, I think we just wanted to give our fans something to play with while we work on a bigger production. The song itself has a lot of energy and I think that is how we feel right now, full of energy.

Any plans to release a music video for the single?

Yes, we already released a lyric video for it and we are planning to do some other cool visual stuff with it in the near future! So stay tuned to our Youtube Channel/CalamityTV.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was the best experience we have had in a studio situation so far, producing a single taking care of every single detail was something that we definitely enjoyed and would love to do again for a next album.

What was it like to work with Ramon Ortiz and how did that relationship develop?

Ramon has been a good friend from a few years now, he is a veteran on the industry, an inspiration for all of us and the guy we need to take care of our studio sound. After his work with Puya and Ankla, and more than 25 years of experience in the music business he is more than prepare to get us in the right spot, in terms of the sound we need on a record.

How much did he get to influence the single?

When we started working on this we already had a solid idea of how the song would be, but hi did some key changes that worked incredibly right for the vibe we wanted to transmit with it. He also did an awesome job couching us to get take out the performance we can do.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, we are already working on new material, so you can expect some concrete news about it next year!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Not really, we want to take the time to make something we are all confortable and pleased with. I would say that we may be starting producing a new album in six or seven months.

What made you want to seek for a heavier sound this time?

I thinks it came out that way by itself, is not that we necessarily where seeking for it to sound heavier. We just started paying more attention to the kind of riffs we where combining and the kind of tone we wanted for our instruments. The result was heavier, and we dig it!

Any plans to hit the road?

We confirmed NYDM Milwaukee spring bash on April 2017 and are in the proses of booking more shows around that date.

What else is happening next in Calamity’s world?

We are negotiating a reissue of our debut album, Imminent Disaster with the European label Witches Brew, which will include End of the Road as a bonus material. That will be our first record deal and we hope it brings more opportunities along the way!
