INTERVIEW: Sebastian

Hi Sebastian, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’m very good and glad to talk to you, thanks!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Angel of Light”?

Angel of Light is one of the first songs I ever wrote. I’ve been working on a lot of material that I hope to release soon, and I think this song is a good introduction to my work. I’ve been having very positive reviews, so I’m very excited to share the song with as many people as possible.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Whereas most of my songs are based on personal experience, this one came to me as a story. When I’m writing, I try to find a particular chord, melody or an idea for lyrics that gets some sort of emotional reaction from me. The story for Angel of Light came to me out of the blue one afternoon and I found it intriguing, so I decided to stick with it.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I will try to release a lyric video for the song before the end of the year. I would very much like to record an actual music video sometime next year but I have not planned that yet!

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process for this song was very quick: I wrote the song one afternoon and, although I’ve made some changes to it, it is basically still the same song. The recording process was also very smooth. I’ve been very lucky to work with very talented people who have helped me find the right sounds for my music.

How did your upbringing influence you as an artist?

I come from a family of artists and have grown up surrounded by music, film and literature. I never knew that I was going to grow up to become a singer and songwriter, but I’m sure being exposed to that world for so long has definitely shaped my approach to music.

What role does Peru plays in your music?

Although I love Peruvian music, I grew up listening mainly to music from the UK and the US, and my music tends to go in that direction. Because Peru is my home, however, it will always form a part of my ideas and my lyrics.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! I‘m very excited about the material I’ve been working on. I plan to release an EP in the next few months, and have plenty of other songs for a second EP or, hopefully, a first album. I think people who like Angel of Light will enjoy my next songs but I also think they may broaden my appeal.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The EP will probably be released early next year but I don’t have a title for it yet!

Any plans to hit the road?

Sure! My main priority is to play shows around Los Angeles but I would love to travel around and play my music elsewhere as soon as possible.

What else is happening next in Sebastian’s world?

I will be in Peru to celebrate the end of the year and will play some of my new material there. As soon as I get back I’ll be doing the same here!
