INTERVIEW: Mauro

Hi Mauro, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey! Thank you, I’ve been busy with my midnight songwriting sessions. I write a lot of music but there’s something about writing at night that gives me the right kind of inspiration and I must say it’s kept me really happy lately and sometimes sleepless but I love writing songs and I spend the best hours of my day exploring new ideas and melodies (New album in the making). Plus… this year I celebrated fourteen years as a music artist!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Dubstep Heart”?

I wrote (music and lyrics), recorded and produced “Dubstep Heart” and it tells the story of a broken heart that keeps beats during the darkest times. It is a reflection of myself in many ways.

I wanted to introduce myself with this new record and I thought it was ideal for me to express my identity abstractly and with this composition I fused complexity and simplicity.

“Dubstep Heart” is my shout of strength, it reveals the power behind never letting go and fighting against adversity.  It is a celebration of resilience. I think the song describes a side of me pretty well, I like the energy I put into it at the time I was writing and recording it.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

It was a series of events. I think the only way of putting them all together was through a song and this is the result. I get inspiration from myself and my music has always been autobiographical and within this particular case this song was touched by feelings of strength. It was a time bomb and it finally gave birth to this record.

Any plans to release a music video for the single?

Something’s cooking…

Why naming the new record after this track?

Because it’s got such a powerful message. The song is deep and fun, it gets away with the vibe of being strong and happy about it. I’ve put out music like “Dance With Me” which was a total success and after “Making Love 2 U” that I listen to every time I’m on the road I thought it was time for me to introduce myself with a track that would describe me and what I’m made of.

How was the recording and writing process?

A song in my heart, guitar in my hands: I was highly motivated by the experiences that baptized this record and the verses came out fast, what I focused on profoundly was the chorus because I wanted it express the joy of being strong when facing adversity, that you can smile while carrying a broken heart, you can always give a good fight for your longings and defeat the inevitable while at the same time being musically appealing.  I combined poetry and pop music, artistic writing in something easy to digest.

The recording process was a lot of fun, I got to travel to record and produce it. I love travelling.

I’ve loved being in a recording studio since I was kid and this wasn’t the exception, I feel free and it’s like nothing matters but the record you are putting your heart and soul into. Vocally I always transmit but this one had me projecting the raw emotion and living the lyrics every line I sang.

I remember having multiple versions as I do for some of my songs, but I made up my mind on the final cut that is out now worldwide.

What aspect of love did you get to explore on this material?

That’s interesting! I do write about love. I think it is the reason why I do what I do because of all the love it gives me back.

This time I got to explore the type of love that you should have with yourself and what you do; the relationship you create with your craft. Another aspect would be loving your broken heart for what it is, an attempt of doing your best that might be interrupted by vicissitudes. Being proud of not giving up and holding on to your own promises. Commitment to yourself is one way of loving yourself. These messages are reflected on the record.

Any plans to hit the road?

All my bags are packed!

What else is happening next in Mauro’s world?

For the end of this year I am focused on the new music I’m creating, I am currently working on a new album. These midnight songwriting sessions are bringing me that fresh sound I’ve been looking for. Next year, buckle up!… because I will be sharing exciting news about my career and the beginning of a new era in my music world.
