INTERVIEW: Rival City

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! We’re great, thanks!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Fading Out”?

Fading Out is one of the first songs we wrote when we got together as a band. The members were even different at that time. And just like the song, the band has evolved.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I think it was more of a sequence of events. I’m usually very quiet on what a specific song actually means because I don’t want to take away from what it could mean to a listener in a more personal way.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I know there’s a lyric video coming very soon. As for the full band video, it’s in the early stages of that process. We’re a very spread out band. With Will in Orlando, Geno in Chicago, KC in Los Angeles, and myself in Detroit, things are always planned out a little more thoroughly.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing and recording of this song was very organic. It happened quite quickly and was, as I said before, one of the first, of not THE first song written.

What made you seek this new direction?

We’re always looking to grow and expand as a band. We have no interest in making the same record over and over. The songs we have coming after this one are even better, in my humble opinion.

How have your previous musical backgrounds influenced this new project?

Through much trial and error, as well as some good old observation, we know what we do and don’t want to be as a band and as artists. I actually learned some new ways of singing on this record. The writing called for more textures than I’ve used in the past. It was a challenge at times but that’s what made it exciting and kept the creativity higher than it would if I were to stay in my comfort zone.

Does the new single mean we can expect  new material? How’s that coming along?

We’ve been writing and recording some really groundbreaking new material with Kevin and Kane Churko in Las Vegas. I’m actually waiting on some new mixes now. It’s like all the Christmas’ rolled up together when waiting for something you just know is going to be amazing. We’ve really stumbled upon a new sound and we can’t wait to share it with the world.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Those meetings are forthcoming, but as soon as I know, so will you.

Any plans to hit the road?

Touring is the payoff for all the grinding in the recording and rehearsal studios. After spending so much time in windowless rooms it’s such a great feeling to get out and put it all together on a stage together. Although my main focus right now is getting the music finished, I’m looking forward to the touring possibilities coming up.

What else is happening next in Rival City’s world?

You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.
