On the heels of a live run of dates opening for Grammy-nominee Tori Kelly, their first-ever U.S. headlining tour and the release of their debut EP, Searching, New York-based group Thirdstory has carved a unique and successful niche for themselves in the world of music and performance. The budding group brings an innovative flare to pop songwriting, mixing crisp three-part harmonies with electronics and live instrumentation with hip hop-influenced production that transcends genres and has earned them millions of views on YouTube as well as a devoted worldwide following. The band’s irresistible soulful sensibility comes to life on stage, enrapturing packed houses, with clever, hard hitting lyrics and live vocal looping as they trade-off instruments.
Their debut EP, Searching, features standout single “G Train”, a nod to the unpredictable NYC subway line in a creative metaphor for lovesickness. Today the band drops an amplified edit of the soul-infused track featuring Pusha T. The “G Train ft. Pusha T” video premiered with FADER and is available to watch HERE.
Thirdstory’s Ben Lusher had this to say about the collaboration: ‘Our first meeting was out of the blue – we were recording with Malay at Germano Studios in downtown Manhattan and Pusha T happened to be in the next room with Desiigner. He ended up coming in and listening to a couple songs we had just finished, including G Train. It was hard to tell then if he was into it, he was kinda just bobbing his head and looking at each of us really intently, but later when we decided to add a verse to it we found out he was interested. That was huge for us – it definitely feels good being recognized by a major artist and hip-hop legend like Pusha T.”
The band is currently readying their forthcoming LP, due in 2017 on Verve/Universal Music Group, with help from Grammy-winning producer Malay (whose recent work includes Frank Ocean’s “Blonde” and Zayn’s “Mind ofMine”). The anticipated release will feature all original material and showcase the band’s powerful vocals and varied influences, ranging from Amy Winehouse to Hozier. A collaborative effort in the truest sense of the word, Thirdstory’s forthcoming full-length debut reflects the group’s wide range of influences and diverse backgrounds.
