PREMIERE: Paris King Release New Single “My Addiction”
It’s almost Friday, and we got the perfect song for the weekend – Paris King is back with her infectious and hyper catchy new single “My Addiction”.
Pink hair, pink eyeshadow and piercing blue eyes – that is Paris King. The performer/songwriter from north London created Paris King after visiting Soho as a teenager and discovering his heroes David Bowie and Boy George.
Paris King’s debut single ‘My Addiction’ (out 27th Jan 2017) is a club banger remixed by Soul Seekerz (Rihanna, Craig David, Britney Spears). Paris says: “My Addiction lends itself to any situation – alcohol, sex, drugs, relationships, love. I suppose It’s the human disposition to become addicted to something you feel is missing.” The lyrics may sound heavy, but the track is packed with fun as well. It’s honest, loud and proud.
What does Paris King stands for? Empowerment. I.e. no fear of expressing yourself. As a child, Paris already felt there were great things on the horizon. Looking up to her most influential artists Michael Jackson and Prince, her belief in the power of music and attitude is unstoppable: “I like the way I do things and I will never compromise. You can do a lot with a pair of heels, a full face of make-up and balls!”
Paris also sit down with us to talk about the single and what’s ahead.
Hi Paris, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Breathtakingly well thank you! All is good and I’m thoroughly enjoying working on the promo for my latest single “My Addiction”.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “My Addiction”?
Yes of course! Its an upbeat song that is about being addicted to someone or something, intact anyone or anything! the song could lend itself to so many situations, love, sex, narcotics, alcohol, anything! Its really all about what the listener hears.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Well overall I would say I have an addictive personality so really its a story of many situations I’ve been involved in or that I’ve fabricated, whatever the case may be (wink) But nothing in particular,no.
Can you tell us more about the upcoming video?
Yeh the video was great fun to make. It was a really relaxed process that has a solo performance to camera concept. The colours are all really bright pinks and golds but in areas the lights drop from bright light to a black light to reveal things in UV that you would never have noticed before. I like it because I think that generally people are like that. They present themselves a certain way but if you look at them from a different perspective they change massively! I don’t know though, perhaps thats just my experience. haha
How was the recording and writing process?
Very easy. the lyrics seemed to flow from me. Its A cliché thing to say that songs write themselves but it did. The main thing for me was that the track was upbeat and sexy and not down trodden. I didn’t want to have a track about addiction that was reminiscent of a come down! Its a loud and proud song.
What was it like to work with Soul Seekerz and how did that relationship develop?
The guys are amazing to work with- if I’m honest I haven’t met them in person its all emails and phone calls but they heard the track through my remix agent Matt Waterhouse and said they could do something with it and because I am a fan of their other stuff I felt they could bring something fun to the table.
How much did they get to influence the album?
Well the album is still in works so we shall see once its complete but Im working on keeping a theme with the songs, without having a carbon copy sound. The theme for this album is honesty and thats why “My Addiction” worked so well as the 1st single from it. Its like I’m holding my own AA meeting!
What role does David Bowie and Boy George plays in your music?
Although I always knew about Bowie (his music wasn’t played in my house, growing up) I was introduced to Aladin,Ziggy and Bowie when I was 14 by a neighbour and friend. She was older than me and taught me about his characters that he built and the showmanship they encapsulated. We would also talk for hours about the double and triple entendres in his lyrics and that fascinated me!
Boy Georges music I had heard more of. My dad was Jamaican and reggae, ragga and ska was a big influence in our house. What I love about Bowie and George is that the lyrics are honest and as much as they were and are often made up they really do show you the people they are with no holds barred and I feel like its that vulnerability that can change the world for the better, But not everyone wants to open up.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes its all in the pipeline! Ive got lots of songs in me yet!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
date wise its difficult to say, but its coming! And I cant giveaway titles just yet! haha
Would all the songs deal with addictions in one way or another?
My initial reaction is to say no. But I suppose all the tracks will be dealing with love, sex , people and partying so maybe?
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes its all being organised. what with christmas coming its just a matter of working around that but next year is the year! Follow me on twitter,Facebook and Instagram (@pariskingonline) to keep up to date!
What else is happening next in Paris King’s world?
Everything! working on music first and foremost, but costume trials for live dates and tv appearances are second on the list. Im a musician first but will always be a go-go queen.
