INTERVIEW: The Russ Liquid Test

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Russ- been great times one zillion

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Honesty”?

Russ- Honesty is a track that utilizes MusicianShip rather than MIDIship to create a sonic story. That story is not set in stone however, its up to the listener to find there own personal meaning of the song.. purposefully I mangled vocals so you have this ambiguous lyrical content… you hear what you want to hear. This is one of the first songs I’ve ever done for one of my projects were i had other musicians (especially horns) on the track.. which proved to be very effective in giving the track a much more organic band feeling.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Russ- LIFE inspired. Our world is falling to pieces because honesty is not prevalent in our political culture. Being honest with yourself translates to being honest with others.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Russ- As of now no… putting all our efforts into making new musics

The single comes off your new album 1984 – what’s the story behind the title?

Russ- both Andrew and I have a love of music that existed pre 2000. especially funk and soul. I feel like the 80’s really saw a rise to the addition of electoronic sounds into the mainstream. 1984 was a big year for the 80’s with the release of the first macintosh computer, Reagan re-elected, the Space Shuttle Discovery taking off on its maiden voyage, Michael Jackson getting burned in the filming of a pepsi commercial, 1984 was def an exciting year in the 80’s Not to mention a great year for so many classic movies (ghostbusters, gremlins, footloose, karate kid..) and to top it off the summer olympics were in LA.

How was the recording and writing process?

Russ- Smooth. Andrew and I compliment each other well in the creative environment.

What role does New Orleans play in your music?

Russ- WE MAKE THE FUTURE VINTAGE. To do that we need real deal muthafunkers of musicians, which NOLA has a plethera of…

How are you seeking to unify music with this record?

Russ- We are not trying to Unify music… We are trying to Unify the PEOPLE. Music brings people together like no other. We want to inspire people and bring people together in hopes to create a much needed sense of one-ness… We are ALL on this planet together.

What aspect of this year did you get to explore on this album?

Russ- the aspect of the American Spectacle Election 2016… Our track “Land of the Free” is about how someone who is not american might view america

Any plans to hit the road?

Russ- we have a US winter tour planned!

What else is happening next in The Russ Liquid Test’s world?

Russ- We are currently working on new material and dialing in the live show for our upcoming 2017 winter tour. Basically we want to get out as much quality music as we can.
