Oh thanks its been some exciting weeks lately and time flies by so fast… but all good thanks.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Nola“?
I put a lot of effort into the production… actually I had this track running in my studio and was listening to some old hip hop stuff on my laptop where suddenly this piano occured and it worked perfectly with the track on my studio monitors so i sampled it and worked with it.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this track?
Yes the birth of the first daughter of my brother. Her name is nola. While I was working on this track it had the title godfather because of the mafiosi sample i used in the end of the track. Then nola was born and i became her godfather… And i just changed the title to nola then.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Well I’m planning to do a video for the album but not yet sure if and how. there is already one for the intro. The single comes off your new album Repetitive Music – what’s the story behind the title?
I love music that has strong grooves and grooves feed off repetition thats somehow the factor that unites all tracks that I produce.
How was the production process?
Well it took a long time. I mixed the tracks in pro tools in a studio in Berlin Mariendorf which is a looong way from my home and i worked with two mastering engineers who both mastered every track and I chose the best versions. In the end 7 tracks were mastered by Brian Sanhaji and 6 were mastered by Conor from Glowcast.
What role does Germany play in your music?
Well Germany is my home and together with Switzerland my origin. And we have a great histroy with techno here which I highly appreciate of course. Guys like Dj Hell or Sven Väth or alter Chris Liebing were huge influences for me so I am sure my music would sound differently if I was located somewhere else.
How has your journey around the world and cultures have influence this record?
Well I tried to make a techno record all kind of people can relate to so I think it is quite the essence of my travels and gigs… I can’t really say how something influences me but I know I soak influences up like a sponge and always carry a recorder on me to do field recordings and note ideas for tracks.
Any plans to hit the road?
Not anything unusual right now. Will go back to South America early next year. And i am hoping we can finally confirm a new tour in North America.
What else is happening next in DJ Emerson’s world?
Just finished a track for Alex Bau’s Credo label and a remix I did together with newcomer Thomas Hoffknecht for a release on my Micro.Fon label.
Then I’m working on 3-4 other new tracks I want to finish this year to have an ep ready for the next year… 🙂
