This Friday, November 4, sees the release of Harsh Riddims 2013 – 2016, by Mike Simonetti’s 2MR label. The album is a compilation that can almost be coined a “best of” from the esteemed Atlanta-based label. That another label (2MR) is choosing to release a compilation of their roster is a testament to Harsh Riddim’s importance on today’s musical landscape.
Today 2MR reveal one of the album’s previously unreleased tracks, Cringe Machine‘s “All The Same,” which premiered at Self-Titled. The band was Justin Bauman, a friend of Harsh Riddim’s, who recently passed away. HR notes, “Justin could play a guitar. He made it sound like anything but a guitar, he was beyond gifted in that department. He played all the instruments on ‘All the Same,’ and produced it. The haze and the sludge at the end of the track is my favorite part. It’s a great exit for this lo-fi, twangy, pop vibe he was able to make. All the love and respect in his direction.” Of the track Self-Titled said, “sounding a bit like the Black Lips-the band’s tape-warped beginnings at least-it’s the beautiful yet broken work of Justin Bauman.”
