INTERVIEW: Juliet Huns
How would you classify your music?
I would classify my music as POP/R&B.
Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?
Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Adele, Selena Gomez, Calvin Harris.
What do you want fans to take from your music?
I want my fans to take self-love from my music, knowing that its okay to make mistakes and it’s never too late to make this right in life, confidence and love. I also want them to see and understand me through my music. Majority of what I write, I have experienced. So I want them to know who I am.
Tell us about your latest release?
I need you here is about a very dysfunctional relationship that I can’t seem to walk away from. It’s like everything is so wrong about that relationship except from from the physical aspect of our relationship. This isn’t something I have personally experiences but know people who have been through relationships like this and I wanted to write about it.
What do you love and hate about the Music Business in your opinion?
What I love about the industry is that it’s a place where you can freely express yourself and I love the diversity to it. The different kinds of music, different people, diversity in age.
I’m not sure what I hate about the industry yet, I feel like I’m still so new to it so I’m not sure yet.
What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?
The best and only concert I’ve ever been to till date was in 2006. I saw Jay-Z live in Ghana. It was a really fun concert.
What I love about playing live is the interaction with the fans and watching them dance and sing along to your music with you. It’s really amazing.
How have you evolved as an artist or band over the last year?
I feel like I have evolved in the sense that I have started to figure out my sound more and what genre I really feel comfortable with.
If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, get drunk with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?
Definitely Taylor Swift. I love her music so much, her personality, she seems like such a great person. With all that she’s also accomplished in the industry, there would be so much I could learn from her.
Is there a song that stands out on your latest release as your personal favorite, Why?
Yes, I would have to say “Realized” is my favorite. I just love the vibe it gives off. Its talking about heartbreak but it makes me just want to get up and go to the beach and dance. And I love that about it.
What is next for you?
Well I would be going on tour with Pamela Long from the Total group and N’ya in 2017. I am very excited for that to happen.
