Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hey folks. We’re good thanks! Keeping busy, such is life.
Can you talk to us more about your single “Reflection”?
Of course. We feel that this is one of our strongest songs from our upcoming album, as it shows off the many aspects of our overall sound. From heavy hitting riffs and breakdowns, to melodic choruses and bridges, this track has it all.
Lyrically, the song is about somebody desperately trying to find themselves. This person has no idea who they are any more and their whole existence seems like a lie. So when they look in the mirror, they reject what’s staring back at them. It’s also linked with mental illness. We don’t like to go into too much detail with the lyrical concepts, as we’d prefer the listener to paint their own picture. Henceforth, the concept is whatever the listener wants it to be in a round about way. We’re a cryptic bunch, aren’t we?
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
There was no event in particular, as this is part of a concept album.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes. We are hoping to release a music video in January 2017.
The single comes off your new album The Deity – what’s the story behind the title?
The overall concept is about a person fighting their inner demons, all whilst trying to find an answer to his problems. He turns to drugs, money and even religion, all with no success until a deity reaches out and speaks to him.
How was the recording and writing process?
Very long. Rich, Cal and Sam originally started practising Rich’s pre-written material in Sam’s living room. We weren’t a full band at this point and as a result, the material wasn’t complete. So we were sort of practising half written stuff. A couple of years down the line, Chris and Mike joined our roster. That was when things really started to solidify. We finished writing the last few songs of the album and everyone recorded their parts. Even then, there was all the little things that needed changing or adding. It’s taken us about a year to complete the album with our full line-up but all in all, we’ve been working on this for about three years. Now that we’re well into the whole process, the next release shouldn’t take anywhere near as long!
What aspect of spirituality did you get to explore on this record?
A few aspects actually. Desire, fear, forgiveness, pride, suffering and eventually, surrender.
Any plans to hit the road?
Definitely. We’re hoping to go on tour some time around March next year.
What else is happening next in Construct’s world?
We have a show in our home town coming up next month for a start. We’ll be at the Rigger in Newcastle-Under-Lyme on November 24th. The music video for Reflection will hopefully be released in January, the album will be out in February and we’ll be touring the UK in March. Other than that, it’s back to the drawing board to write some new material.
