Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Want You More”?
It’s quite literally about wanting someone more than they want you. A physical relationship doesn’t always suffice and so this delves into the complications of wanting more than just that.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
There are plans yes, more on that soon.
What was it like to work with Sam Sure and how did that relationship develop?
He heard one of my tracks on BBC Kent Introducing and got in touch to write something collaborative. It took a while but we got it to exactly where we wanted it to be in the end!
What did he brought to the table?
He brought some great ideas, mainly the theme of the track. My initial thoughts for it were quite different but I much preferred his idea. His vocals were also a treat to work with.
The single comes off your new album Luminous – what’s the story behind the title?
I’m currently in a very vibrant writing phase and I want to convey that! There’s a lot of energy going into the project and that made me think of bright neon lights, hence Luminous.
How was the recording and writing process?
Recording and writing go hand in hand for me. My process is to work with the singer from scratch to really gain influence from both sides. I love writing, it’s the most exciting part about the whole process of taking a track from start to finish.
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are producing for someone else than when you writing for your own?
Absolutely, when it’s for someone else I have to achieve the sonics they want, whereas for my music I decide where the track goes. I love both processes, writing for others and myself, they both bring unique challenges of their own.
Any plans to hit the road?
2017 will hopefully be a big year, more releases and more shows is the plan!
What else is happening next in Draper’s world?
I’m going to see Dr Strange tomorrow night which I’m pumped for.
