Warner Bros. Records has announced today they will make a series of vinyl singles and albums available on November 25th in honor of Record Store Day’s “Black Friday” celebration. Originally, Black Friday – now in its 7th year — was created by large corporate retailers to drive consumers to stores by promoting deals and discounted prices on mass-produced products. RSD’s Black Friday subverts this tradition by creating special limited-edition pieces, often numbered, from a diverse list of beloved artists. RSD’s version of Black Friday celebrates the pieces themselves and honors the special independent record stores that carry them.
Warner Bros. Records will make available the following special releases:
Gary Clark Jr.: “The Healing” Live / “Church” Live; 10″ 45 RPM vinyl single. Limited to 3,000 copies.
These are live, solo, acoustic versions of these two tracks from Clark’s most recent album The Story of Sonny Boy Slim. Both cuts recorded for Showtime’s comedy Roadies, directed by Cameron Crowe. These tracks are previously unreleased and exclusive to RSD.
The Regrettes: “Marshmallow World”; 7″ scratch n sniff Marshmallow-scented vinyl. Limited to 3,000 copies.
“Marshmallow World,” was originally written in 1949 by Carl Sigman & Peter DeRose and though recorded by countless artists, perhaps the best loved version was a Christmas hit for Darlene Love (one-time member of The Ronnettes) in 1963. This might be the best version yet?
The Wild Feathers: Live at the Ryman; 12″ colored vinyl album. Limited to 3,000 copies.
Nashville’s favorite sons captured at their electric best during their triumphant, sold-out homecoming show at the prestigious Ryman Auditorium, marking the final date of the tour in support of their acclaimed current album Lonely Is A Lifetime.
And from Nonesuch…
Conor Oberst: “Afterthought” b/w “Tachycardia” 7″ black vinyl. Limited Edition
