Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hey VENTS! Thanks for having us! We’ve been really good. Busy playing a bunch of shows and writing new songs
Can you talk to us more about your single “Dr’s Order”?
Our percussionist Garrett Achten wrote this song. We wanted a song where we all did some harmonizing on some “whoahs” . Ha!
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Not any event in particular but when Garrett wrote it, he wrote it about being addicted to the social aspect of the bar scene and whiskey drinkers in particular.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We’d like to do videos for all of our songs eventually. Hopefully sooner than later.
The single comes off your new album Enjoy The Ride – what’s the story behind the title?
The song Enjoy The Ride came out of the struggle of moving on from a relationship. Life rarely ever goes like you want it to, so you might as well just sit back and enjoy the ride!
How was the recording and writing process?
Most of the writing for this album happened before the band really took shape. Cory wrote a lot of the material and the rest of the band just made it what it is now. We had a blast in the recording studio. Silas Thomasen and Everett Oklar at Decibel Garden Studios are amazing to work with!
How has the new lineup additions have influence the band’s sound fans have been loving so far?
While it feels like we’ve been together forever, the additions of Jason and Evan in 2015 really formed the sound we were looking for as a band. When we added Phil as our drummer in early 2016, we knew we had that sound. Our fanbase has grown immensely in that short time.
What role does Denver plays in your music?
Denver is our home. Home has always inspired us. The people, the mountains, the lakes, the thunderstorms, the snow. We love it here. We play the majority of our shows here. There is always something you see in Denver that can inspire a song.
What led you to seek for a somewhat Roots direction on this record?
We just wanted to make a sound that we loved and we feel like there are a lot of people out there who just want some good old fashioned dance your butt off rock and roll.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
In everyday life! This Moment was written for a girl about not waiting for the perfect time to tell her you love her. Whiskey Dreams and Dr’s Orders are all about whiskey and the feeling of life being so overwhelming that you sometimes want to drown yourself in a bottle. So you write a song about it instead. Smile For The Cameras was written about the constant “Big Brother Is Watching” state we are in. Nobody wants to get caught on camera looking dumb so you might as well smile!
Any plans to hit the road?
We just played a few shows in Los Angeles towards the end of September and are hitting the road for Chicago, IL at the beginning of December. Next year, we’d like to see more of the world and play music everywhere!
What else is happening next in Float Like A Buffalo’s world?
So much! We have our awesome manager Tiffany Ramirez working her butt off booking shows for us so there will be much more to come. We’ve been doing some benefit shows for some charities lately that have been a blast. We’re working on one for EHH which helps teenage girls who are survivors of sex trafficking that will be coming up in December. Also, our amazing publicist Rhonda with Team RMG has been getting our name out there like crazy. So look for a Float Like A Buffalo show near you and go to it! You will not be disappointed!
