INTERVIEW: Storm Harbour

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi VENTS! We’ve been working hard at bringing you all the very best out of our debut EP!

Can you talk to us more about your single “Backbone”?
Backbone Is actually the most recent song we wrote as a band, but as soon as we finished arranging it we knew it was going to be our first single and the track to open our EP with. The song is about going through a hard time in your life and being able to come out on the other side wiser, and better off having gone through it.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Ally wrote the lyrics for this song based on a bad relationship experience he had. The negativity he experienced wasn’t pretty, however it helped shape him into who he is now.

Any plans to release a video for the single?
We are currently working on a video for this single. News will be posted on our Facebook as soon as possible.

The single comes off your new self-titled album – why name the record after the band?
We all come together from different bands with different influences. It feels like naming the album after the band solidifies, in our minds, that this is us and this is our sound.

Can you think of a better name?
A lot of Ideas for names were passed around and considered. In the end, we all agreed that moving forward with a self-titled album felt like the strongest move.

How was the recording and writing process?
The process of making this album was an inspirited and creative rollercoaster. Everyone in the band is so invested in our music that there is constantly ideas being thrown around. At the end of the day, everything we have done so far has been a lot of fun!

What role does Stockport plays in your music?
We all met through college in Stockport. Dan and Adam met when they started college at Aquinas college in Stockport in 2009. They hit it off musically straight away. Adam worked with Matt and brought him into get involved with a band. The 3 of them were in a band for 3-4 years before splitting up to pursue other goals. After a hiatus of 2 years, the 3 of them decided to get back together and start writing completely new material. The drummer and singer from the original band couldn’t rejoin due to other commitments, so Adam brought his friend Alastair to start writing with them. Ally knew a mate from high school who he was in a band with Charlie, who he brought in to play drums. As soon as the 5 of us got together, we knew it was a perfect line up and we all gelled musically very quickly.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Alastair was mainly inspired with his lyrics by things that affected him personally e.g, relationships, moving away from home etc. The rest of the band take inspiration from their own music tastes and passions to write the music.

Any plans to hit the road?
We would love to hit the road as soon as possible really. Especially with the EP release in December. So hopefully, yes.

What else is happening next in Storm Harbour’s world?
At the moment we are promoting and playing shows to promote the EP launch. Then hopefully in 2017, start playing different cities around the UK.
