INTERVIEW: Eemia

How have you been?

I’ve been very good thank you! Very excited for the gig this Saturday 22nd…

How do you choose which songs to play your own rendition?

For me it can be an old favourite that I love and has lots of memories that come with it, (piece of my heart for example) or it can be a song that I’ve just had a big attachment to, so much that I wanted to sing it myself. The cover at the end of my set on Saturday is just that! I have loved it all summer so had to perform it!!

Do you take a different approach when you are re-writing someone else music than when you are writing your own stuff?

It’s nice to really strip it back and either go super raw and acoustic or build up from scratch and make it your own. so i suppose i go for the same approach with both. It’s always fun putting your own spin on a track that’s out as people like to see your own personality on a track.

Speaking of original material, how’s your new album coming along?

Really good!!! you’ll be hearing three new tracks that i’ve been working on for my EP on Saturday.

How has NYC have influence this new record sound and lyrics?

It’s more the people that I’ve worked with out there, different writers and producers that have inspired my ear to try different things. I love travelling a it keeps you constantly inquisitive.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I do know the title but you will just have to wait and see…. In regards to time I’m being quite the perfectionist with this EP. I’m loving the work so far but I think I’ll just know when we’ve got the tracks we want and that’s when i’ll decide on a release.. so you’re getting a little sneak peak on Saturday

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes most probably after the new year!

What else is happening next in Eemia’s world?

There’s been some very exciting conversations at the moment, here and in the States but so far taking i’m baby steps and next in Eemia’s world is CIRCLE LIVE… See you there I assume?
