Rising R&B singer Connor Pearson is a 20-year-old vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who hails from Clackmannanshire, Scotland. Today, Red Bull Sound Select has the official stream of “That Way” produced by Doc McKinney. Complex premiered the track today, noting, “The track arrives with a lush instrumentation, quickly picking up with the weight of Connor’s impressive vocals as the backbeat treads freely in a dreamy, key-filled escape courtesy of Doc McKinney.”
Earlier this week Pearson also released “Free Fall feat. D.R.A.M.” The track was unveiled by Zane Lowe on his Beats1 show and via TheFader. The two tracks make up atwo-song digital single being released tomorrow, October 14th- Pearson’s first official artist release.
“The musical essence of ‘That Way ‘was definitely inspired by the culture and sounds that has been coming out of Toronto – Drake/OVO/The Weekend and so many others,” said Pearson. “Toronto is special place, it was my first time visiting. After spending some time in the city with Doc we hit the studio. it was mad cool working with him. I was at a stage in my life where music became my main focus and certain relationships became hard to maintain…subconsciously I feel that’s what drove the lyrical content.”
Pearson’s passion for music began at the age of 8 on traditional bagpipes, he moved onto guitar by the age of 10, and eventually focused in on his current sound while studying music production at school. He came onto the international scene after collaborating with college classmate Sam Gellaitry. The pair posted “Retaliate” on SoundCloud, which flagged their talent to Soulection co-founder Joe Kay, who curated them into the Red Bull Sound Select program.
