‘Fall’ is the stunning new single from South African artist, Ross Jack, his first ever UK release, available now. Watch the video HERE.
Taken from his debut album, ‘Self Medicated’ ‘Fall’ is the perfect introduction to his sound – a dark love song that’s brooding and atmospheric, showcasing the kind of melodic hip-hop that’s already helped him top the charts in his native South Africa.
“I describe my sound as Electric Soul, or Stoner Pop,” says Ross. “I try to keep a bit of darkness to what I do and I like to combine Soul samples with synths and Bass and big drums.”
Born in Johannesburg Ross Jack made a name for himself in his home country as a prodigious beat-maker for up & coming hip hop acts, soon progressing to full producer credits for big names in South Africa including Toya Delazy, HHP, Chiano Sky & Khuli Chana. In 2012 Ross released his first single titled “Seven45” and officially launched his career as a solo artist.
His 3rd single “Home Safe” stormed to the top of the iTunes SA HipHop chart and stayed there for 4 weeks, whilst the follow up “Babylon” appeared in the Local HipHop singles Top 10 on iTunes, he followed this with an acclaimed mixtape ‘Notes from the Wild’, which cemented Ross Jack’s status as a legitimate contributor to the bourgeoning SA Hip hop sound.
In 2015 he released his debut studio album with Sony South Africa, ‘Self Medicated’ – capturing influences of Rap, RnB/Soul, Trip/Hop and Pop. The album features the ‘Fall’ and the next UK single, ‘Fear The Rush’, featuring Benjamin Arrow co-writer of Naughty Boy’s Runnin’ (Lose It All) ft Beyonce, which will be out in the UK in November.
When asked about the development of his sound, Ross commented: “With Self Medicated I’ve learned more about the process of creation & recording & I feel its way more authentic than anything I’ve released previously. It’s definitely my best work to date.”
