INTERVIEW: Chris Jewell

Hi Chris, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Really good, been hard at work.. working on the new music video for Rise and Fall.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Rise & Fall”?

Sure.. it’s the title track for my ep with a story plot of being in a relationship that drags you down but too much of a routine to give up on. This was an immediate choice for my 4 track EP due to the shear energy of the song.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I wouldn’t say any event in particular… but I have found myself in the position of not feeling 100% with how day to day relationships with certain people are heading and this was my expression on that feeling.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes certainly, coming this Friday 30th September, the brand new video for Rise and Fall will be released through music news.

Why did you name the EP after this track in particular?

I found this song title also reflected on the sound and feelings that the other songs on the EP gave out. So it best suited for me.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing is always great. Trying new stuff opens new doors all the time with music for me. The Recording for this song was extremely fun. This was a song I coukd already hear before it was recorded so that helped big time with production.

What was it like to work with Andy Brook and how did that relationship develop?

Andy Brook has not only helped me with recording and producing these tracks but also helped me in finding myself in music. He has a great positive vibe that pulls me through any negative thoughts on my music and allowed me to see what I’m actually capable of! Thanks Andy!

How much did he get to influence the album?

Andy helped me choose the best choice of songs for the EP and also produced the tracks. Those lovely strings you hear, they were all written by Andy himself. So without him I wouldn’t have got these songs down to the amazing standard they are.

What role does London plays in your music?

London to me is unknown right now. There’s so much I need to explore in what it offers in music. I’m beginning my exploration of live events starting with a gig at the spice of life on 16th October.

Who would you say your biggest influences are?

My influences range massively in terms of genres but the British sound of ed sheeran and James bay really gave me a target to achieve.  In terms of song writing, I always have to go to John Mayer.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

The lyrics and songs found me tbh. I never reach for my guitar with hope to write a song. I spose most of my inspiration comes from life experiences.

Any plans to hit the road?

I’m hoping to next year drop the day job for a week or two just to venture the country and play to brand new crowds so yeah there are some plans floating around.

What else is happening next in Chris Jewell’s world?

In my world.. it could be anything, however the next thing on my list to get back in the studio to record a couple of new songs I’ve written. For now though, rise and fall is my key focus.
