Grand Analog’s Dub-Influence Shines on Love Is A Battlefield EP

Today, Grand Analog premiered their new EP, Love Is A Battlefield, on Tiny Mixtapes. Called “an EP so astutely grounded in the past and present,” it is available for free through Friday on their Soundcloud. The EP features an exclusive track “Vapours” that will only be available on the free download. The group also included an electronic, hip-hop influenced cover of Junior Murvin’s “Police And Thieves”, which was also covered by the Clash on their debut album. Love Is a Battlefield will be available to purchase this Friday, October 7th.

Grand Analog recently released the video and single for “Love Is A Battlefield” on Clash Magazine. The track “matches a classic reggae beat to hip-hop flourishes.” When asked of the meaning, frontman Odario Williams said, “Love Is A Battlefield” is a song I wrote about the city itself; and one’s love & hate relationship with that city. Most dream chasers fall in love with a city before migrating to it, then find themselves fighting to maintain that adoration as adversity, everyday struggle and the inevitable heartbreak takes toll.” “Love Is A Battlefield” is the lead track off of their upcoming EP, which also includes a remix from world renowned dub producer, Mad Professor, who has worked with Massive Attack and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry among others.

Known for fusing a live band aesthetic with a straightforward hip hop approach to form a unique yet cohesive sound, Grand Analog is made of crate diggers, musicians and self-described beat junkies; a beautiful hodgepodge of rap n’ roll, dub, and soul. They have released several critically acclaimed albums, including “Modern Thunder”, “Metropolis Is Burning” and “Calligraffiti”, all of which boast an infectious array of soundscapes that “sweeten its hip-hop cocktail with dubby reggae, wah-wah funk and Bo Diddley beats.” Their new dub-influenced EP, Love Is A Battlefield, will be officially released on October 7th.
