Vancouver roots rockers The Matinée announced today the release of their brand new single “Dancing On Your Grave”, available everywhere September 30th via Light Organ Records. Built on smoldering guitar riffs, impassioned vocals and magnetic story-telling, “Dancing On Your Grave” speaks to the idea of celebrating someone who is no longer with you – in this case, lead singer Matt Layzell’s grandfather Walter, with whom the band spent countless hours with over their years together. The title-track from their forthcoming February 17, 2017 sophomore full-length album, “Dancing On Your Grave” showcases the dynamic musicianship of The Matinée and serves as an amazing introduction to an album that explores the growth and transformation of the band as a whole.
The follow-up to 2013’s “We Swore We’d See The Sunshine” and the U.S. released 2015 EP “Broken Arrows”, which garnered the band a #1 hit for six weeks straight on CBC Radio 3, “Dancing On Your Grave” was recorded in two sessions at Vancouver’s 604 Studios. Produced by Jamie Candiloro (Ryan Adams, REM, Courtney Love), the album is a combination of spontaneous creativity, mindful and often therapeutic songwriting and songs that were written, jammed and recorded on the spot in studio.
“Dancing On Your Grave” sheds a more mature and creative light on a band with unrelenting passion and drive. Often compared to such musical legends as Tom Petty, Wilco and the aforementioned Ryan Adams, The Matinée are no strangers to the hard work and dedication necessary to succeed, touring tirelessly and always striving to ensure that each and every live show is elevated from the last.
The Matinée is; Matt Layzell (vocalist), Pete Lemon (drummer), Matt Rose (guitar) and Geoff Petrie (guitar).
