Singer/songwriter/actress/director Hayley Kiyoko arrives today with “CITRINE,” her highly-anticipated label debut EP. The five-track collection – which features breakthrough single “Gravel To Tempo” – is available at all digital retailers & streaming partners today.
“CITRINE”– which takes its name from the amber gemstone known in crystal work for its powerful healing energies – is highlighted by the self-empowerment anthem “Gravel To Tempo.” The single is accompanied by an equally powerful companion video, written and directed by Kiyoko, that premiered last month via Refinery 29 and has fast proven an online sensation, now with total views approaching 3 million at Hayley’s official YouTube channel. “CITRINE” also features “Pretty Girl” which debuted yesterday via PAPER Magazine, with the publication stating, “Pretty Girl” reminds us that Top 40 can still be saccharine, mysterious and powerful…” The track is also featured on Apple Music’s popular Best Of The Week playlist. “Palace”, another powerful track featured on “CITRINE”, is featured on Spotify’s coveted New Music Friday playlist.
Hailed by US Magazine for “giving a whole new meaning to pop anthems,” Kiyoko will introduce the EP’s second single and video, “One Bad Night,” at a very special premiere event, slated for Monday, October 10th at New York City’s Samsung 837. The clip will make its exclusive online debut via VICE’s Noisey on Tuesday, October 11th.
Kiyoko is celebrating “CITRINE” with a series of high profile live dates including “The One Bad Night Tour,” set to kick off November 2nd at New York City’s Webster Hall (see attached itinerary). “The One Bad Night Tour” follows a jam-packed summer schedule for Hayley that included North American support dates alongside indie/electronic recording group Miike Snow and a show-stopping appearance at Wantagh, NY’s Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival. The “CITRINE” EP was recorded earlier this year in Ojai, CA, with all songs produced by 4e (The Neighbourhood) and Bram Inscore (Troye Sivan, Beck) (see attached tracklisting). Tracks like “One Bad Night” and “Palace” – the latter currently featured on Spotify’s popular New Music Friday playlist – offer a fresh and fiery new take on modern pop, fusing complex beats, crafty electronics, and unstoppable songcraft to create an inspiring, enigmatic new style Billboard has praised for “drawing on the thick, bubbling textures of ’80s pop and injecting them with modern flavor.”
Hayley Kiyoko created a true musical disruption with last year’s independently released “THIS SIDE OF PARADISE” EP and its remarkable single, “Girls Like Girls.” The entrancing “Girls Like Girls” companion video – written and co-directed by Hayley and Austin S. Winchell – proved an undeniable smash, now boasting more than 47 million individual views at Kiyoko’s official YouTube channel and over 12 million streams at Spotify alone.
“THIS SIDE OF PARADISE” proved the multi-platform new star’s pop breakthrough, earning her widespread attention for tracks including “Cliff’s Edge,” again accompanied by a Kiyoko-directed video that premiered via Teen Vogue before receiving nearly 12 million views at her official YouTube channel.
Kiyoko’s dynamic creativity and artistic ambition seemingly know no bounds, spanning lead roles on TV and film projects like CBS’ CSI: Cyber, Insidious: Chapter 3, and the Netflix Original Movie, XOXO.
