The single comes off your new album Perfection Is In Imperfection – what’s the story behind the title?
Perfection Is In Imperfection is inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-sabi, a concept which focuses on the appreciation of imperfection, things that are simple, rough, or incomplete. Wabi-sabi nurtures all that is authentic by acknowledging three simple realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.
I am a spiritual person and thats exactly how i see things its not only music wise. I have this philsophie for a long time in my head and i thought this is the perfect title for my first album.
How was the recording and writing process?
I wrote the most tracks in my home studio only “Aphrodite” i did on the flight back from Melbourne to Düsseldorf on my laptop. My brother which is a tone tone engineer received all parts and worked on the mixdown in our main studio.
Mostly we worked simultaneously. So he mixed and I wrote the title and arranged everything.
This was very effective and we were able to finish the album in half a year. Conor Dalton from Glowcast Mastering took care about the mastering.
What aspect of imperfection did you get to explore on this material?
None of the tracks are perfect for us of the album, but this is not the point of view its more the way we thing about everything. Its more a mental mantra which i find for me the last years.
Living in a spiritual way. All the tracks are produced on the point, functional in the club and sounding brilliant, but there is always a view on it which can be imperfect.
Any plans to hit the road?
My agency blakksheep is quit busy with setting up the album tour. We had a really busy schedule this year touring in Australia, India, Sweden, Ibiza etc. and i am really looking forward to continue in that way. We kick off the tour with the album release party on 08.10 in Berlin at Club Magdalena.
What else is happening next in Drumcomplex’s world?
We are back in the studio working on a new project. There will be later this year a new EP out on Intec which i did together with Roel Salemink. We did recently lots of brainstorming and collected some ideas for future developments. Also working really hard on the next releases from different artists on my own imprint Complexed Records
