JACK RIVER Shares New Single “Palo Alto” + Debut EP Out Oct 7

Jack River has today released the brilliant new single “Palo Alto” coming out on Australian label and influencer I OH YOU and Hopeless Utopian Records here in the US. The track is the second to be released from her forthcoming EP Highway Songs No.2, which is set to be unleashed on the world next Friday, October 7th. Click Here To Listen To “Palo Alto”

Jack River is the alias of Holly Rankin who hails from Forster on the NSW Mid North Coast of Australia. Rankin describes how the song came to life:

“I wrote and recorded Palo Alto through so many times in my life that the song became a kind of folder for memories and sentiments over a long stretch of time. I started writing it in my hometown, then continued it in Sydney (my friend lived in a building called Palo Alto), and then wrote the rest in different trips to the studio.”

“It was always destined to be sun-drenched and gritty and gilded in synths and electric guitars – I wanted to find the line between the 90’s, early 2000’s and now, and blend all my dreams of a highway song into one. The moment this song came together, production-wise, it felt like the beginning of Jack River. It’s about letting go but not giving up, melancholic-but-sure endings, and people realising magic when it’s too late – even though you knew it all along.”

Earlier this month Jack River turned heads when she performed at BIGSOUND to a capacity room full of fans and media alike. The show, which was announced at the eleventh hour, saw Rankin and her band give the room a taste of what to expect.

Palo Alto” is a collaborative production between Jack River and John Castle, with additional instrumentation from Xavier Dunn, who has had a hand in many of Rankin’s creations including lead single “Talk Like That,” which received reviews filled with praise along and clocked over 300,000 streams across all platforms, an outstanding effort from an artist who is only just getting started.
