PREMIERE: The Linemen Release New Single “Sunday Driver”

In what it could be considered a plot twist, we are wrapping up our premiere series not with a new documentary installment as we you usually do but with a classic act whose back with a newly revamped lineup. We are talking about the Alt-country staples The Linemen, now co-fronted by original lead singer/songwriter Kevin Johnson and new addition Jonathan Gregg, formerly of NYC band The Lonesome Debonaires. The band is back with their new exciting track “Sunday Driver”.

New album, Close the Place Down (out Oct. 14), was cut at Brooklyn Recording Studios by Andy Taub (Keith Richards, Spoon). The vibrant record alternates between the kind of spirited Americana Johnson and Gregg have built a career on, plus a healthy injection of expertly delivered jangle and power-pop. New single “Sunday Driver” falls squarely in the middle, an alt-country-tinged hit of lonesome Jayhawks/Petty-channeling jangle, painted in all the right places by Gregg’s chiming guitars and lush pedal steel, and Johnson’s weary yet gorgeously melodic vocals.
